Five year old drowns in St. Amant

Staff report

Ascension Parish Major of Criminal Operations Kevin Hanna reports the Sheriff’s Office responded to a possible drowning Saturday afternoon, July 14, 2012, in Cessna Street Gated Community Subdivision off of Highway 429. Once in the subdivision deputies were directed to a home on Buddy Gore Drive where it was learned that a 5-year-old child was just located unresponsive in a canal behind the home.  The child was transported by Acadian Ambulance to a Baton Rouge hospital with a faint pulse.

The investigation revealed that the child was at the Buddy Gore Drive home with his parents visiting friends and was out of his parent’s site for less than 5 minutes. Upon searching for the child he was found in a small canal located just behind the home.

The child never regained consciousness and passed away Sunday night, July 15.
