Jambalaya Festival kicks off in Gonzales

Bon Appetit! The 45th annual Jambalaya Festival is now underway.

The event runs from Thursday, May 24 through Sunday May 27 at the festival grounds off Irma Bouleavard in Gonzales.

The festival kicked off Thursday with the Champ of Champions cooking contest.

Friday's activities begin at noon with the 2012 World Champion Jambalaya Cookiing Contest, with the last of the first heats ending at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, cooking continues while runners will take their marks for the 5K and 1-Mle Fun Run at the Gonzales Civic Center at 8 a.m. The little ones will start coooking at 10 a.m. in the Mini-Pot Cooking Contest,, with the 18-and-up contestants firing up at 2 p.m..

From 10 a.m- 4 p.m., classic cars will line the streets for a car show. Arts and crafts fans will enjoy looking for goods along Irma Boulevard on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 9 a.m.

The cooking contest semifinals take place Sunday morning, with the finals that afternoon. The champion will be crowned at 6 p.m. at the EATEL Sound Stage.
