Griffins to collide with top-seede Barbe in 5A quarterfinals

Dutchtown will face No. 1 seed Barbe in the Class 5A quarterfinals Friday at Tulane's Turchin Stadium.

The No. 9-seeded Griffins learned of their opponent last night when Barbe knocked off No. 17 seed Catholic (a District 5-5A rival of the Griffins) 5-3 in the regional round Tuesday night.

The Barbe-Catholic game was a continuation of a game which started Monday. The game was suspended after four innings due to a rain and lightning storm.

Dutchtown (27-9) earned a spot in the quarterfinals after a 9-0 win over No. 8 seed Brother Martin at Hirsch-Rooney Stadium in New Orleans Monday night.

Barbe heads into the quarerfinals 30-6. Catholic ended its season 23-13.

The loss denied the Bears a third consecutive trip to the state championship tournament.
