Records and previous showings mean little or nothing in playoff action -- and East Ascension proved that on Wednesday.

The No. 30- seeded Spartans stunned third-seeded Sam Houston 7-4 Wednesday in Lake Charles in Class 5A bi-disrict playoff action.

"We felt pretty good about it going in," Coach Mike Toups said. "We had some really good practices the last few days before that."

"We played well defensively, walked one and made no errors," he said. "We played like we can play."

Jace Fairchild belted a double and RBI, while Austin Miller had a pair of two-baggers to power  East Ascension, which finished with 11 hits.

East Ascension rallied for five runs in the second inning. Sam Houston trimmed the lead to 5-2 in the botom of the third, but the Spartans padded their lead with two runs in the top of the sixth.

The Broncos mustered two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Tyler Robertson improved to 3-3 at the mound for the Spartans. Tyler Dalton (6-2) was tagged with the loss for Sam Houston.

EAHS will host No. 14 seed Acadiana in 5A regional action at 5 p.m. Monday. Acadiana nipped No. 19 seed Haughton 3-2 in the opening round.

"Acaidiaan cam out of a good district, the same as Sam Houston," Toups said. "They're always good."
