Jerome Harden, 21, of 58770 Allen Street in Plaquemine was arrested in Port Allen yesterday near midday and later booked with second-degree murder at the Iberville Parish jail.

Harden was identified by a witness as the suspect in a fatal shooting at the Relax Inn near Plaquemine March 30. Iberville Sheriff’s Dept. Chief Criminal Deputy Steven Engolio reported a witness came forward to say Harden had admitted to the shooting on the day of the murder.

The shooter knocked on the door of a room at the motel and when the door opened, the suspected shooter fired one shot into the room, hitting and killing Ryan Daley, 31, of Plaquemine. Daley was reported to be one of four people in the room when the shooting occurred around 4:30 a.m. March 30. Iberville Sheriff’s officers believe the killing was the result of a botched robbery attempt.
