Ascension Christian posts 10-4 district win over East Iberville

Payton Stafford went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to power Ascension Christian to a 10-7 win Wednesday against East Iberville.

The Lions improved to 6-9 and 2-2 in District 9-1A, while EIHS dropped to 3-12 and remained winless in district fare.

Caleb Ricca went 2-for-4 with two runs, while Brennen Perkins finished 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Lions.

The Lions yielded the Tigers two runs in the top of the first, but Ascension Christian responded with four in the bottom of the frame.

East Iberville cut its deficit to one run in the second, but Ascension stretched its lead with two runs in the bottom of the third.

The Tigers had their biggest showing in the top of the fifth when they rallied for four runs and a 7-6 advantage.

Ascension Christian wasted no time pulling past East Iberville. The Tigers regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning and padded the lead with two more in the bottom of the sixth to take the win.

Evan Pellegrin improved to 3-3 at the mound for Ascension Christian.

The Tigers finished the day with five errors, while the Lions committed one.

Ascension Christian entertains St. John-Plaquemine on Wednesday and resumes action April 10 at East Iberville.
