Registrar of Voters Office releases Presidential Preference Primary information

On March 24th, Louisianians will go to the polls to express their preference for a person to be the nominee of their party for president, and also vote for their state and local committee members.

THIS IS A CLOSED PARTY ELECTION

RECOGNIZED PARTIES

• There are only 2 recognized political parties in the Presidential Preference Primary, Democrats and Republicans.

• The election code specifies that a party has to have 40,000 or more registered voters to participate in the Presidential Preference Primary.

• Only Democratic voters can vote for Democratic candidates for presidential nominee and state central and parish executive committees.

• Only Republican voters can vote for Republican candidates for presidential nominee and state central and parish executive committees.

TO REGISTER TO VOTE AND/OR MAKE CHANGES TO REGISTRATION

The deadline to register to vote, make address or name changes, or change party affiliation is at the close of books on February 22, 2012.

HOW AND WHERE CAN ONE DO THIS

• In Person at the Registrar of Voters offices

• At any Office of Motor Vehicles location

• Online at http://www.geauxvote.com/

Voters are responsible for ensuring that their record is accurate and up-to-date before February 22, 2012.
