Ascension Parish Skate Park groundbreaking slated

Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez announced today there will be groundbreaking ceremony for the new Ascension Parish Recreation Department Skate Park on Monday, Nov. 21 at 1:30 p.m. The groundbreaking will take place off of Irma Boulevard in Gonzales on land between the National Guard Armory and the Council on Aging.

“We’re excited to be adding another form of recreation for our residents,” President Martinez said. “Along with our recreation department funding, there has been a constant effort among our young residents to raise money for this park.”

Engineering contractor Eric Poche with SJB Group said the approximately half-acre skate park will have two construction phases. Poche said concrete will be poured along with the installation of concrete quarter- and half-pipe elements, grind rails and benches, and concrete flat work.
