Central Middle wins parish volleyball championship

It was a first for Ascension Parish girls’ volleyball in the middle schools. Last year, schools throughout the parish began the journey to implement another girls’ sport by having a trial-run season of games.
This year, the Central Middle Lady Mustang volleyball team completed a perfect season by winning their final game Oct. 19. With this win, they secured their right to be Ascension Parish’s first middle school volleyball champion.
“The girls dug deep and battled during the season and deserve to be champions,” said head coach Nicole DeSouge.
The Lady Mustangs’ season began with high expectations with several returning starters from the 2010 trial-run season in which the team lost just one game.
“We worked hard in practice and played some tough games along the way, but it feels good to win a championship banner for our school,” said one of the team’s captains, Claire Weinberger.
The girls credited their coaches who worked hard with them throughout the season, Nicole DeSouge, Traci Adams, and Brett Weinberger, and their parents for supporting them.
