LHSAA to move 2011-12 state basketball, wrestling championships

Staff reports

BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) announced that the 2011-12 State Basketball Championships and the 2011-12 State Wrestling Championships will not be held in the Shreveport-Bossier area.

In the summer of 2010, the city of Shreveport was awarded the two championships when the Shreveport Regional Sports Authority (SRSA), who was authorized to officially represent and make commitments for the Shreveport region in the area of sports marketing and recruitment, made proposals to host the two events at no costs to the LHSAA and its member schools.

Due to internal changes within local government, SRSA was replaced by the Shreveport Bossier Sports Commission (SBSC). The SBSC informed the LHSAA that they were unable to honor the original 2010 contract and offered an alternative proposal. The LHSAA Executive Committee did not find the alternative proposal acceptable.

The LHSAA is currently in negotiations with other venues around the state as possible sites for the upcoming events. The LHSAA will announce the championship sites once an agreement has been finalized.
