Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre (BRBT), a community arts organization with a 50-year history in the Baton Rouge area, announces the three performances of its 2011-2012 season: Houston Ballet II, The Nutcracker – A Tale from the Bayou and Spring Concert, From this Pointe On.

BRBT will kick-off its 51st season with Houston Ballet II on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. at the River Center Theatre for the Performing Arts.

Houston Ballet II, the second company of Houston Ballet, America’s Fourth Largest Ballet Company, features a stellar array of artists and performs a variety of dance works that range from excerpts of great classics such as The Sleeping Beauty to contemporary works by Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welch.

The season will continue with the holiday classic, The Nutcracker – A Tale From the Bayou on Saturday and Sunday, December 17 and 18, 2011, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the River Center. A student matinee will be held Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 9:30 a.m.

“This is the one chance we have each year to see so many Baton Rouge artists combined with world-class guest artists working together to bring joy to Baton Rouge audiences,” says Molly Buchmann, co-artistic director of BRBT. “When you consider the talented guest and local dancers, the Baton Rouge Symphony musicians who will be conducted by David Torns, the River Center crew, and our brilliant designers, you see that there are literally hundreds of artists creating this Christmas present for Baton Rouge. It's theatre on a grand scale presented with love.”

The culminating event of the season, BRBT’s Spring Concert, From This Pointe On…, will be April 19, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. at the River Center Theatre for the Performing Arts.

“With excerpts from the amazing classical ballet Swan Lake and newly commissioned works by exciting contemporary choreographers, this mixed bill will have something for everyone,” says Sharon Mathews, co-artistic director of the company.

Season tickets are now available at the reduced rate of $99 through Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre via phone. Season ticket holders receive priority seating at all shows. Tickets for individual shows will also be available prior to each performance through Ticketmaster and the River Center Box Office.
