Staff reports

Elon senior defensive back Jonathan Conner of Prairieville was honored as the national FCS defensive player of the week by FCSFootballNetwork.com on Monday. Conner was also named as an honorable mention pick for the Defensive Back Performer of the Week by College Football Performance Awards.

Conner helped new Elon head coach Jason Swepson earn his first victory by racking up four solo tackles and intercepting the first pass of his career. Conner then returned the pick 99 yards for a touchdown. The return was the second-longest interception return in program history.

The Phoenix went on to defeat Concord by a score of 42-10 and continued to be among the teams receiving votes in The Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Top 25.

Conner and the Phoenix will look to pick up win number two on the season this Saturday when the team visits North Carolina Central for a 6 p.m. kick in Durham, N.C.
