Bacala Sr., Anthony Joseph “Tony”
Anthony Joseph “Tony” Bacala, 88, passed away Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at his home in Prairieville. A native of Donaldsonville, he was a retired supervisor with Shell Oil Co. with 34 years of service and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater. Entombment in Ascension Cemetery, Donaldsonville.
Baxter, Lula “LuLu”
A homemaker and resident of Baton Rouge, she died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, at The Guest House. She was 84 and native of Sorrento. Burial in Southern Memorial Gardens.
Berthelot, Warren Adolphe
A lifelong resident of French Settlement, he passed away at his home Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, at age 85. He was a retired clerk with the U.S. Postal Service. He served in the U.S. Navy as a gunner's mate second class in World War II and the Korean War. He also served as a military police officer in the Naval Reserve. Visitation at St. Joseph Catholic Church, French Settlement, on Thursday, Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment in St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery.
Bourque, Mildred Mary Thomassie
She passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at Ormond Nursing Home, Destrehan. She was 97, a native of Gonzales and former resident of Kenner. Burial in Holy Rosary Catholic Church Cemetery, St. Amant.
Carson, Geneva Anna “Max”
A resident of Baton Rouge for the past 55 years, she passed away at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011. She was 82. She spent her younger years in West Virginia and attended Berea College in Kentucky before joining the Air Force during the Korean War. She later graduated with honors from the University of Southern Mississippi. She taught school at Dutchtown and later at St. Amant High School in Ascension Parish. Interment was private.
Comeaux, Sandra Par
She was 65, a native of Plaucheville and a resident of Gonzales, and passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011. Graveside service was held at Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m.
Fife, Bertie McCoy
Bert McCoy Fife, 59, passed away Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice, due to Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Born on Dec. 13, 1951, she was a resident of Baton Rouge and native of Zachary. A graduate of Zachary High School and Loyola University, Bert was president of Bert Fife & Associates for 19 years before becoming a speaker, life coach and author of “The Free Bird Flies: Choosing Life After Loss.” She received numerous business awards, including Outstanding Business Woman in Louisiana from the Department of Economic Development, and a Lifetime Achievement Award for her leadership in the in-store event marketing industry. Additionally, Bert was the first woman president of the 50-plus-year-old New Orleans Grocery Manufacturers Representative Asso. She served on the board of the Baton Rouge Battered Women's Shelter and was active in the Women's Council of Greater Baton Rouge and the National Speakers Association. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, on Sunday, Sept. 11, from noon until a celebration of life memorial at 2 p.m.
Gautreau, Marshall Beauregard
A native of Ascension Parish and a resident of New Orleans, he passed away Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at age 84. He was a graduate of LSU and was a educator in Ascension Parish for many years. He held the positions of teacher, counselor, principal and superintendent of schools. He was a charter member of the Rotary Club and before moving to New Orleans and had been a parishioner of St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Gonzales. Interment in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Goodwin, Joyce Joffrion
She was 84 and passed away Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at Landmark of Baton Rouge. She was a native of Grosse Tete and resident of Donaldsonville. She was retired from the Ascension Parish Library. Interment in Protestant Cemetery, Donaldsonville.
Jenkins, Ernest Delmar “Duke”
A resident of Gonzales, he died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 41 and a native of New Orleans. Memorial service at Demby & Son Funeral Home, Donaldsonville, on Saturday, Sept. 3. He attended Donaldsonville ARC Habilitation Center.
Jackson, Edna Lee
A resident of Donaldsonville, she died at 9:25 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was 67 and a native of Amite. Interment in Protestant Cemetery, Donaldsonville.

A resident of Gonzales and former owner of Fairwood Grocery, she died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011. She was born Sept. 19, 1920. She was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church, Gonzales. Interment in Hope Haven Cemetery, Gonzales.
Nealy, Debra Kay
She was 58 and passed away Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, in Prairieville. She was a native of Hardtner, Kansas, and a resident of Prairieville. She was a retired supervisor for Popingos Convenient stores and gas stations. Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
St. Pierre, Judy M.
She died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at her home in St. Amant. She was 67 and a lifelong resident of St. Amant. Entombment in Holy Rosary Mausoleum, St. Amant. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 3693.
Sellers, Kenneth Wayne “Kenny”
A lifelong resident of Gonzales, he passed away at 10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, Baton Rouge. He was 50, an associate at Andy's Grocery. Burial in Maurepas Community Cemetery.
