The New Orleans Saints took a 40-20 preseason win over the Oakland Raiders in front of a national television audience Sunday night.

Saints head coach Sean Payton said he was pleased with the effort and energy.

The Saints offense racked up 514 total yards (388 passing, 126 rushing) as quarterback Drew Brees compiled 189 yards on 15-of-23 passing. Backup Chase Daniel threw for 191 yards, including touchdown passes to Tory Humphrey and  Adrian Arrington.

The balanced rushing attack produced scores by Mark Ingram (his third straight game with a touchdown) as well as Pierre Thomas and Joique Bell.

“The third preseason game is obviously the one where the starters get a majority of the playing time,”?Brees said. “It’s really a dress rehearsal going into the regular season, so you definitely want to leave that game feeling good about where you are, even though we have almost two weeks of preparation prior to opening up against Green Bay.”

The Saints improved to 2-1 in preseason play. They return to New Orleans after spending the week practicing in Oxnard, California.

The Saints host the Tennessee Titans in the preseason finale Thursday in the Louisiana Superdome. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
