Local Surgeon named Top 15 National Bariatric Leaders

Dr. Andrew Hargroder

Louisiana ranks highest in obesity in the nation. In an effort to help combat this problem, Dr. Andrew Hargroder, opened a very successful bariatric surgery practice in Southeast Louisiana in 2002.  Quality laparoscopic surgical care, as well as care and compassion throughout their weight loss journey, is one of Dr. Hargroder’s ongoing goals. 

Dr. Hargroder is a Board Certified General Surgeon who is also Board Certified in Surgical Critical Care and has performed more than 2000 bariatric surgeries. In addition, he is designated by the U.S. Surgical Review Corporation as a Center of Excellence surgeon. As a nationally recognized bariatric surgeon, Dr. Hargroder has operated on patients from most of the 50 states and has proctored (trained) more than 200 bariatric surgeons from around the country.  

Dr. Hargroder received his training from Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. He is a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgery and the American Burn Association.  He is a Board Certified General Surgeon with certifications in Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass, Band, and Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy procedures. He has active bariatric practices at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales, Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge, and Cypress Pointe Surgical Hospital in Hammond.
