Gonzales 13-year-old Dixie boys win district tournament

The Gonzales 13-year-old Dixie boys team recently won the district tournament. The 13-year-old Dixie boys took the title in the district tournament held in Gonzales.

With the win, they advanced to play in the Dixie Boys State Tournament, held in Bossier City.

The Gonzales team had to play the Ponchatoula team and won the first two games in a best of three series.

Game 1 – Gonzales wins 5-4

Gonzales scored three runs in the bottom of the first on singles by Bobby Lee, Ethan Baldwin, Dustin Decoteau and Zachary Banker.

Gonzales scored again in the bottom of the fourth on a single by Zachary Mayeux. He then stole second and advanced to third on a single by Cade Belleu.

Mayeux then scored off of a balk by the Ponchatoula pitcher to make the score 4-0 after four innings of play.

Ponchatoula scored one run in the top half of the fifth. In the sixth Ponchatoula scored three runs on three walks, two base hits to tie the score at 4 a piece.

In the bottom of the sixth, Mayeux got on with a single and then moved to second with a stolen base. Belleu had a single to right field and drove in Mayeux for the winning run.

For the game, Mayeux and Mason Schexnaydre each had two hits. Banker, Decoteau, Baldwin and Bobby Lee each had one hit.

Banker pitched for six innings, giving up four runs, no earned runs, four hits, five walks and five strike outs. Baldwin came in during the sixth inning for Banker, facing the last five batters, giving up no runs, two hits and one strike out.

Game 2 – Gonzales wins 10-5

After a two-out double, the Ponchatoula pitcher balked, allowing Terrence Lymon to score, giving Gonzales a 4-1 lead.

In the third, Sage Richardson got on with a walk and scored off of a double by Banker to cut the score down to 4-2.

Mayeux led off the fourth with a single. After a stolen base, he scored on a single by Lee. Ponchatoula also scored a run to mak the score 5-3 four innings.

Gonzales added another run in the fifth when Banker led off with a single. After a single by Lymon and a stolen base, Banker scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 5-4. Gonzales took the lead in the sixth off of a walk to Lee, a single by Decoteau and an error on Ponchatoula. Gonzales added four more in the seventh on singles by Banker, Lymon, Darrin Landry, Lee and a walk to Belleu to make the final score 10-5.

Richardson, the starting pitcher, went four innings, giving up five runs, two earned, on two hits, two walks and three strike outs. Banker came in and pitched the last three innings, giving up no runs on two hits, one walk and three strike outs.

Batting for the Gonzales team: Mayeux was 3-for-3, Landry 1-for-1, Belleu 2-for-3, Banker 4-for-6, Lee 4-for-7, Decoteau 3-for-7, Lymon 3-for-7, Schexnaydre 1-for-4 and Baldwin 1-for-8.

Pitching for Gonzales:?Baldwin and Banker each were 1-0 and both had a .000 ERA. Richardson had an appearance with a 3.0 ERA.

As a team, Gonzales has an ERA of 0.86 and allowed a .189 batting average.
