In an effort to better meet the needs of the Ascension community, the Gonzales Weekly Citizen will be changing edition dates next week.

As of Thursday, July 14, The Weekly Citizen will go from a twice-weekly printed publication to a weekly publication, with the new publication day each week being changed to Thursday.

The change is to move the paper forward in a new direction, as the paper focuses on the entire Parish of Ascension said publisher Glenn Stifflemire.

“By focusing on one printed publication a week, our editorial staff will now have more time to focus on a wider selection of stories that encapsulate the area. The extra time can be spent on finding more diverse photos and videos for our website that reflect life in Ascension Parish.”

More daily updates will be taking place on the Weekly Citizen web page, a move that Stifflemire is pleased with.

“Digital media is now an important facet of the newspaper industry,” he said. “Times are changing, and we must change with them. By paying close attention to digital resources at our disposal, we can and will bring a better quality product to everyone reading our print publication and our online updates.”

Life in Ascension is changing, and the parish is growing. The belief is that by offering one high quality edition each week, the Weekly Citizen can better focus attention on highlighting what is best about Ascension.

“We used to be a once a week publication, and it worked. By returning to our roots, but adding the forward thinking of digital media, we  will be taking the Weekly Citizen into a new era, one which is necessary to be competitive in today’s media marketplace,” said Stifflemire.
