Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez announced today the parish’s burn ban is now lifted.

“We are lifting the Ascension Parish burn ban because of the improvement of local conditions brought on by recent rain storms,” President Martinez said Thursday.

State Fire Marshal Butch Browning and Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain issued a statewide cease and desist order for all private burning effective June 1, 2011. The order states private burning may be allowed by permission of the local fire department or local government.

President Martinez is encouraging residents to use caution with any open burning.
