Aneurysm Outreach, Inc. seeking donations for a silent auction
Aneurysm Outreach, Inc. (AOI) is seeking donations for a silent auction to be held during Aneurysm Outreach's Chef Showdown & Silent Auction on Saturday, Aug. 13, from 4-8 p.m. at the Varsity Theatre in Baton Rouge. This year's event invites you to come and enjoy a tasting from South Louisiana’s finest established as well as aspiring chefs who will be in a unique competition and to take home your favorite items in an overflowing silent auction. Local favorites, Michael Foster Project and Something Blue, will provide music for dancing at this exciting event. AOI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization, Tax ID 72-1455117; therefore, all donations are tax deductible.
Funds raised during Aneurysm Outreach's Chef Showdown & Silent Auction will be used to help sustain AOI as well as further its mission of raising public awareness to the threat of undiagnosed aneurysms by providing no cost ultrasound screening programs for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA - pronounced Triple-A) to those most at risk (seniors - especially males) throughout Louisiana.
Did you know that AAA is a silent killer that claims 13-19,000 Americans every year and is the 13th leading cause of death and the 3rd leading cause of sudden death in American men? AAAs occur when there is a weakening in the walls of the aorta. This weakness causes the walls to bulge and over time to eventually burst, resulting in rapid and severe internal bleeding.
The good news is that approximately 95 percent of AAAs can be treated if found early; many with minimally invasive endovascular repair technology. In addition, AAA can be reliably detected using a simple, painless ultrasound-screening exam that was recently recommended by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force in specific instances, though currently not covered by most insurance.
The organization hopes you will help support Aneurysm Outreach through a silent auction donation. If you would like to join them for Aneurysm Outreach's Chef Showdown & Silent Auction or if you have any questions, contact Sheila Arrington at 225-622-1577.
