Dutchtown Middle student advances to national junior high rodeo

Cody Martinez, a Dutchtown Middle student, will compete in the National Junior High Finals Rodeo.

Cody Martinez, a sixth-grade student at Dutchtown Middle has earned a position on the Louisiana National Junior High rodeo team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Gallup, New Mexico from June 26 through July 2.

Martinez will compete in the seventh annual National Junior High Finals Rodeo in the bull riding competition.

Featuring more than a thousand contestants from 47 states, Canadian provinces and Australia, the finals is the world’s largest junior high rodeo.

In addition to competing for more than $75,000 in prizes, the NJHFR contestants will be vying for more than $100,000 in college scholarships and the chance to be named a national champion.

To earn this title, competitors must finish in the top twenty after two rounds before advancing to the final championship performance Saturday.

The Saturday championship will be televised nationally as part of the “Cinch Town Tour” series.
