Jack Cockrum signs with University of West Alabama

Jack Cockrum, a standout catcher for East Ascension High, signed to play baseball for the University of West Alabama in Livingston, Alabama. Jack Cockrum, a standout catcher for East Ascension High, signed Thursday to play baseball for the University of West Alabama in Livingston, Alabama.

Cockrum received both academic and athletic scholarships. He made All-District as a catcher in both his junior and senior seasons. He was an All-Metro honorable mention as a junior, and a first-team All-Metro selection this year.

Cockrum also was a Pro Day Baseball Prep Gear First Team All-American.

He graduated with honors and a 4.2 GPA. He was Academic All-State in soccer and baseball.

A signing ceremony was held at Carlico Cafe in Gonzales. Cockrum thanked the business' owner, Luke Marchand, for being a supporter throughout his career at East Ascension.

Attending the ceremony were Cockrum's parents, Corbit and Claudene Cockrum, as well as East Ascension head coach Wayne Grenfell, Assistant Principal Randy Loving and Athletic Director Paul Bourgeois.
