St. Amant’s Toni Rodriguez, shown during a playoff game against Barbe last season, has been named to the Jr. Olympic High Performance National volleyball team. She will participate in the High Performance National Championships in Arizona in July.

ST. AMANT?– As a freshman, Toni Rodriguez finished last season as a starter on the St. Amant volleyball team.

She recently tried out for the Jr. Olympic High Performance National volleyball team, and found out this week that she made the cut.

“This is an amazing feat considering she has only been playing volleyball for 10 months,” St. Amant head coach Allison Didier-Leake said.

Rodriguez will be among the top 88 volleyball players in her age group in the country. Olympic players seen on television have played on these teams when they were young, Didier-Leake said.

“I only know of four players from Louisiana to have ever played on these youth national teams,” the coach added.

Rodriguez will travel to Arizona at the end of July for ten days of competition in the highest profile tournament for high school volleyball players in the nation – the High Performance National Championships.

The tournament hosts the best teams and players from multiple states and from around the world.
