Bass for Cash

The Gonzales Firefighters Association’s 2nd Annual Bass for Cash Tournament will be May 21 from safe daylight until 3 p.m. at Cabela’s.

Registraion is $100 per boat. There will be a five-fish limit.

Gonzales soccer

Support the local Gonzales Soccer Club team U17 girls Flames back-to-back state champions as they head to Alabama for Regionals.

A multi-family garage sale will be from 6 a.m.-2 p.m. at Karate Konnection at 16172 Airline Hwy. in Prairieville (next to Acadiana Optical) on Saturday, May 21.

A car wash will be from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. and pulled pork sandwiches will be sold starting at 10 a.m.

A jamabalaya fundraiser will be held at Lowe’s in Gonzales on Sunday, May 22 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Flag football

The Gonzales Flag Football Club will hold registration through May 25 for its Youth Flag Football league.

The league is for boys and girls ages 5-13 years old.

Games will be played on Saturday evening. The season begins June 4 and lasts for five weeks.

Each roster is limited to 12 and must have a minimum of seven.

Registration is $35.

Volleyball camp

The Dutchtown Volleyball Camp will be June 13-17.

The first wave will be 8-10 a.m. for second-sixth graders. The second wave will be  10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for seventh-tenth graders.

Registration for the first wave will be June 13 at 7:30 a.m. Second wave registration will be June 13 at 10 a.m.

The cost is $65 ($50 if registered before May 20).

UKLA soccer camp

The 8th annual UKLA soccer camp, hosted by coaches Chris Goodall and Jason Naquin, will be June 6-10 from  9-11:30 a.m. and 4:30-7 p.m. at Central Middle School.

The camp is for ages 5-14 year old, and all talent and experience levels (including first timers) are accepted. Cleats are not a necessity, but tennis shoes should be brought every day.

Registration includes a camp ball, T-shirt, snacks, camp completion certificate, medal and instruction from licensed local coaches as well as accomplished players.

The cost is $80 for one player, $150 for two siblings, $210 for three sibling and $280 for four siblings.

Rain dates for both sessions will be June 11.

Volleyball clinic

The “Be the Best Volleyball Clinic”?will be Tuesday, June 21 and Wednesday, June 22 from 9 a.m.-noon in the St. Amant High School back gym.

The clinic will be hosted by the St. Amant volleyball team with head coach Allison Didier Leake and assistant coaches Rae Didier and Kenny Young.

It is for ages 8 to 14 years old.

Each player is asked to bring kneepads and tennis shoes. They will receive small group instruction on serving, passing, setting and spiking. Instruction will be from basic to advanced, depending on the player’s knowledge. Players will be grouped according to their ability.

The cost will be $40. Registration will be 8:30-9 a.m. Tuesday, June 21.

Football camp

Football tryouts

Why pay to play? Tryout for the River Parish Crusaders full-contact football team for free. The team will cover several area parishes, including Ascension, Assumption, Iberville, St. James, St. Charles and St. John. “Kicking unity into the community” is the team’s slogan. Hunter safety

Hunter safety courses will be provided at the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Range on St. Landry Street in Gonzales.

The classes will be held on Thursday, July 28 from 6-9 p.m. and on Saturday, July 30 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

You must attend both days to complete the course. We are only taking 50 people for this class. You must pre-register for the class by going to the LDWF Web site at

If you are not pre-registered, you will be turned away at the door. No walk-ins welcome.

Baseball camp

The 2011 summer week “Improve Your Game” baseball camp will be June 13-16 from 9 a.m.-noon at John Keith Ambeau Field in Gonzales.

The camp is for children in kindergarten through eighth grade (2011-12). The cost is $85 per player (with an Ascension Parish Schools discount available). Players are asked to pre-register as camp is limited to the first 100 campers.

Insurance will be provided by Hughes Insurance.

Players should bring a cap, glove, baseball attire and bat (optional). T-shirts will be provided by Athletic Center of Gonzales.

Concessions will be sold throughout the day. A bank can be set up.
