Ascension Parish baseball teams gear up for postseason

Dutchtown and East Ascension players shake hands after the last game of the regular season. Both teams, along with St. Amant and Ascension Catholic, head into the playoffs this week.

Dutchtown, East Ascension and St. Amant kick off the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 5A baseball playoffs this week.

Dutchtown (26-5) was seeded No. 7 after winning the District 6-5A title. The Griffins have won the last 20 straight games. Dutchtown will host No. 26 Covington Wednesday at 6 p.m.

East Ascension (17-16), seeded No. 21, travels to play St. Thomas More of Lafayette Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Denham Springs (19-13) of District 5-5A hosts No. 23 St. Amant (16-17) Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The No. 1 seed went to Catholic (28-3) in Class 5A.

In the Class 1A playoffs, Ascension Catholic (18-8) will host St. Frederick Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Regira Field in Donaldsonville.
