The executive director of the USS Kidd battleship updated Rotary Club of Gonzales members on the activities of the vessel moored in Baton Rouge on the Mississippi River.

A star on the LSU basketball team in the pre-Pete Maravich era of the 1960s, Maury Drummond  is credited with helping turn the Kidd into the top destination in the nation’s fleet of historic vessels.

Drummond said he never has a problem asking people to donate money to support the non-profit organization that keeps patriotic Kidd activities afloat.

Thousands of kids camp out overnight on board each year, and the 4th of July fireworks show on the Mississippi River is a stirring event not to be missed. Returning to play at the event this year will be Gonzales own NaNaSha band, Drummond said.
