Weekly Citizen promotes final week of food drive

Helping those in the community who are less fortunate can make all the difference to those in need. Reaching out and giving can fulfill the lives of so many in Ascension Parish.

With that in mind, the Gonzales Weekly Citizen has decided to do just that. To be successful, we need the residents of Ascension to help.

From  Feb. 1 through Feb. 28, the newspaper will host the ‘February From the Heart’ food drive, with all goods going to the Ascension area food bank sponsored by St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church.

“We are crying out for items like rice, dried beans and grits,” said volunteer Gloria Stelly. “Also things like toiletries or paper towels and toilet paper along with boxed or canned food items.”

Residents can come into the Gonzales Weekly Citizen office at 231 W. Cornerview Road in Gonzales, and drop off canned or non-perishable food items.

All items will be distributed to needy families throughout the parish, regardless of religion affiliation.

There are so many families that need the help of those of us that can provide assistance. Starting locally is the first step in changing lives.

Items are welcome in any amount, as even one item will help those people truly in need.

The Gonzales Weekly Citizen will accept donations between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. throughout the month of February.

When you come in to drop off your goods, we’ll give you a complimentary copy of our latest edition of the Gonzales Weekly Citizen, and a coupon for $14 off an annual subscription.
