Ryan Fontenot, a former track and field athlete with Louisiana State University, will be back at Bernie Moore Track Stadium this Friday night, Feb. 18, competing for a new US Track and Field Indoor Championship time.

Fontenot, a resident of Dutchtown, is hoping to increase his time, edging him one hurdle closer to his dreams of Olympic glory.

The event is a inter-collegiate track and field exhibition, but Fontenot will be using the venue to beat his already staggering time as a hurdler.

“Even though it is a collegiate competition, it will be a great opportunity for me to improve my time before the USA Track & Field Indoor Championships next weekend. My training partner, Barrett Nugent, who is one of the top hurdlers in the NCAA will be runnning also so I will have some good competition. The US Indoor Championships is one more step in my path to Olympic glory as I will be running against my main competitors there that I will see again at next year's Olympic trials."

Fontenot has been working hard to secure a position on the next summer OIympic track and field squad.

Make sure to find out more about him in the March edition of Gumbo Magazine.
