‘Big Buck Contest’ returns to Louisiana Sportsmen’s Show

Staff reports

“The Big Buck” contest is coming to the Louisiana Sportsman’s Show, with cash and prizes for the entrants with the highest-scoring deer in several categories.

Louisiana Sportsman magazine will host the contest, which is open to whitetail deer killed during the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

• Best In-State Buck

• Best Out-of-State Buck

• Best Bow/Muzzleloader Buck

• Best Youth Buck

To enter, bring a mounted buck or intact rack to the Sportsmen’s Show during regular show hours on Friday or before noon on Saturday. Participants receive a free show pass.

An official Boone & Crockett scorer will measure all deer. Racks that have already been B&C scored will be eligible provided the entrant brings in the certification showing the official score of the deer.

Prizes will be awarded on Sunday, with the Best In-State Buck winner receiving a check for $1,000. Best Out-of-State Buck will get $500. The winner in the Bow/Muzzleloader category will receive a prize package that includes a Bushnell Trophy Cam trail camera and an Ol’ Man climbing tree stand, provided by Bowie Outfitters. Best Youth Buck winner will receive a prize package that includes a Bushnell Trophy Cam trail camera and a Gorilla climbing tree stand, provided by Bowie Outfitters. The youth category is open to hunters who were 17 or younger at the time the kill occurred.

All entrants will be included in a drawing for a Summit ladder stand, provided by Bowie Outfitters, and a Bushnell Sport 600 Laser Range Finder.
