The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance in locating a fugitive from Ascension Parish in connection with an armed robbery.

According to Chief Deputy Tony Bacala, in the early morning hours of Sunday, Jan. 16, the Sheriff' s Office responded to Deck Boulevard, off of Hwy. 74 in Geismar, to investigate an armed robbery.

The investigation revealed that the victim had received a call from a female friend, a couple days prior to the robbery, inviting him to come over and hang out. Saturday night the victim received text messages from the female's phone and believed that he was communicating with his female friend, Bacala said.

When the victim arrived at the female's home early Sunday morning to visit he encountered an individual that claimed he was armed with a gun and would kill him if he didn't cooperate. The individual then struck the victim and stole his cell phone, rummaged through his wallet and vehicle looking for valuables. A short time later a neighbor interrupted the robbery and the individual fled the scene.

Further investigation revealed that the female friend was sleeping at the time of the robbery and it is believed that her roomate, Paul Castilaw, Jr., took and used her cell phone to lure the victim to the home. Castilaw was subsequently identified as the person responsible for the robbery

Castilaw, age 29, cannot be located and is believed to be on the run. He is possibly in Lafayette/ Breaux Bridge area with family members. He is a fugitive from Ascension Parish and is wanted for armed robbery, armed robbery with a firearm additional penalty, aggravated burglary and simple battery.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office at 225-621-INFO (4636) or Crime Stoppers at 225-344-STOP (7867).
