Girls Fast Pitch Softball

Girls fast pitch softball tryouts for tournament teams U12 and U14 will be at 9 a.m. at the following dates and locations:

• Saturday, Jan. 29 at Highland Road Park

• Saturday, Feb. 5 at Butch Gore Park in St. Amant

• Saturday, Feb. 12 at Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales

Free Throw Contest

St. Theresa KC Council 2657 is sponsoring the annual Knights of Columbus Free Throw Contest. All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2011 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. The local competition will be held on Jan. 23, at St. Theresa School Gym at 1 p.m. The winners of the local contest will progress through district, and state competitions. Participants are required to furnish proof of age, and written parental consent. Entry forms will be available the day of the competition. Soccer tryouts

The Baton Rouge Soccer Club will have supplemental tryouts for U10-U14 age groups (girls and boys) on Saturday, Jan. 22 1-2:30 p.m. at the Burbank Soccer Complex. The tryouts will be for BRSC Division 1 and Premier Teams for the upcoming spring season. The club will look to add a few players to complement the current rosters. To register a child, call 924-5674 (9:00 a.m.-2:00/noon on Fridays) or e-mail kbriggs@brsa.org. Tryouts for the 2011-12 soccer season will be held in May.

Gonzales Soccer Club

The Gonzales Soccer Club will be having spring registration on Saturday, Jan. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carver Park facility located in Gonzales on Tobey Street. Online registration is also available via the website eteamz.com/gscsoccer, from Jan. 7 to Jan. 22. Registration is open for ages 4 to 18. Proof of age is required, so don’t forget to bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate.

Soccer camps

Jared Montz, retired professional soccer player, will host youth soccer camps for players ages 5-13 at Carver Park at 616 West Toby Street, Gonzales, Jan. 29 and Jan. 30 from 1:30-4:30 p.m.

The camp, formed in 2006, is designed to teach campers the soccer skills and techniques that will help them reach their personal goals in soccer and in life.

Gridiron Alumni

Gridiron Alumni is coming to the area in March and putting on full contact, alumni football games as a way of raising money for local schools and charities. Teams are forming of past high school players age 18-plus to play in one more full contact football game representing their old high school against their rivals. Equipment and everything needed to play a game will be supplied. To sign-up go to gridironalumni.com and find your city and high school. If it’s not listed, call one of the coordinators below. Only the first 50 players to sign up on each roster get to play. The sites will be determined once the teams are formed.
