Gonzales donates $10,000 to Ascension Fund

In keeping with its longstanding commitment to education, the Gonzales Rotary presented a check for $10,000 to The Ascension Fund during its regular meeting Jan. 11.
Fritz Englade, Jr. and Bret Hughes, who served as chairperson and committee member for the Gonzales Rotary's “Steer & Beer” fundraiser, presented the donation to Dr. Elizabeth Nealy, executive director of the Ascension Fund, and Peggy Walker, president of the fund’s board.
In 1991, the Gonzales Rotary helped establish The Ascension Fund and has been a loyal and generous and supporter since then.
“There's no denying The Ascension Fund's importance to the quality of education for our children,” said Englade, who is also serving as President of the local service club. “And contributing to the Fund is one of the most significant ways the Gonzales Rotary can ensure a bright future for our community.”
The Ascension Fund celebrates its 20th anniversary on Jan. 16 of this year. since its founding two decades ago, the fund has awarded more than $1.2 million, representing 980 grants, to the public schools and teachers of Ascension Parish.
The Fund's mission is to enhance public education in Ascension Parish; to accomplish this goal it awards $500, $1,000 and $2,500 grants to winning applicants.
