Meth lab raided in Smoke Bend

Staff reports

Six persons have been arrested following a methamphetamine lab bust on Jan. 11 at a house in the Smoke Bend area of  Donaldsonville, Ascension Parish Chief Deputy Tony Bacala said Wednesday.

Narcotics Division investigators worked from information received on that day that there was a working methamphetamine lab at home in Smoke Bend, and that there were small children in the home, Bacala said.

Investigators obtained a search warrant, and that evening, accompanied by members of the Juvenile and Criminal Investigations divisions, executed the warrant at the residence of Mickey “Weeby” Stevenson, 30, 35104 Hwy 1 North.

Due to the volatile nature of the ingredients used to cook crystal meth, Bacala said members of the Sheriff’s Haz-Mat team accompanied the Narcotics Division on the search warrant.

Authorities found a four-year-old and a five-year-old in the home along with six adults, according to the chief deputy.

The sheriff’s office juvenile division took custody of the children and subsequently turned them over to State Office of Child Services.

The six adults were taken into custody by the narcotic team after the meth lab was located in the home along with a small amount of marijuana and cocaine, Bacala said.

The meth lab was secured and removed from the home by the Haz-Mat team.
