Gonzales man charged with armed robbery

Gonzales Police Department detectives arrested a Gonzales man after an incident in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart located at 308 N. Airline Hwy Monday.
Sgt. Steve Nethken said Dennis Thaddeau Dumas, 34, of 408 Sherman Street, Gonzales, was arrested and charged with one count each of armed robbery, aggravated battery, and unauthorized use of a food stamp card.
According to reports received by police, an unidentified man agreed to pay Dumas $65 in cash for the use of his Louisiana Purchase card and Pin number in order to make purchases totaling $132.
After the purchases were made in the Wal-Mart, Nethken said Dumas and the victim were seen leaving the store together and speaking in the parking lot.
At that time, the victim went to pay Dumas the $65 and Dumas brandished a box cutter, holding the instrument to the victim’s throat and demanding all of his money, Nethken said.
According to police, the victim received a superficial laceration throat, and Dumas was identified as a suspect by detectives, and as the robber by the victim.
After detectives received warrants for Dumas’ arrest, he was captured asleep in his bed at his parents residence on Sherman Street without incident, Nethken said.
Dumas was incarcerated in the Ascension Parish Jail in Donaldsonville Wednesday, awaiting bond consideration.
