Local woman dies in Assumption Parish accident

Authorities reported the woman who was hit by her own car as it was being pulled from a ditch by a tow truck has died. Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack confirmed BarrieAnn Hebert, 42, of Gonzales passed away from her injuries late Thursday night.

Deputies with the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office said they were contacted after a single-car crash on Hwy. 70 South, west of Dugas Road in Belle Rose Tuesday night.

They reported the wreck happened around 9 p.m. in a curve known for many accidents.

They believe she was looking around the car for her cell phone and neither they nor the tow truck driver knew she was near the car as it was being moved.

No charges have been filed in connection with the incident, but the investigation is ongoing.
