La Hwy 42 traffic diversion planned

Staff reports

Hwy 42 eastbound and westbound, approximately one half mile west of Hwy 431 and the Amite River Bridge, will be diverted onto a detour road and bridge in order for crews to remove the existing relief bridge and replace it.

The traffic will be shifted to the detour roadway on Jan. 4, 2011 at 1 p.m.

The speed of Hwy  42 will be reduced to 25 mph from the detour area to Hwy 431 and Hwy 42 intersection for the entire four to five month duration that the detour road is to be used.

The detour will allow vehicles 11-feet wide or smaller to pass through the construction zone.  The detour will be opened for regular traffic but oversized vehicles must detour on the following routes:  Eastbound; Hwy 42 east to Hwy 44 south to Hwy 931 east to Hwy 431 north to Hwy 42 east.  Westbound; Hwy 42 west to Hwy 431 south to Hwy 931 west to Hwy 44 north to Hwy 42 west.

DOTD appreciates reminds you to drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
