Wednesday is last day to register for the coming runoff election
The last day to register to vote in the upcoming Oct. 2 election is Wednesday Sept. 1, Registrar of Voters Robert Poche said.
This election is the runoff for the U.S. Senate, and the 3rd Congressional District, Lt.. Governor, PSE District 3, School Board Members in District 1, 4, 6, and 7, and a Council member Town of Sorrento.
Anyone wishing to make changes to their registration such as party affiliation, address changes, or name changes must so by this date. Voters who are still registered in other parishes will need to change their registration if they wish to vote in Ascension Parish.
Citizens can register at one of the two offices in Ascension Parish. The Donaldsonville office is located at 300 Houmas St. Suite B, and the office in Gonzales is located in the old courthouse at 828 S Irma Blvd., Room 205.
Registrar of Voters office hours are from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Act No. 537 – Senate Bill No. 5, Regular Session, 2009
To move the convening of the legislature in annual regular session in even-numbered years to the second Monday in March and in odd-numbered years to the second Monday in April and to change the effective date of legislation enacted at such sessions to August first. (Amends Article III, Sections 2(A)(3)(a) and (4)(a) and 19)

Act No. 538 – Senate Bill No. 209, Regular Session, 2009
To provide that the director, deputy director and all employees of the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness shall be in the unclassified service of the state civil service. (Amends Article X, Sections 2(B)(11) and (12); adds Article X, Section 2(B)(13))
Summary: 10-year 7.40 mills property tax renewal for giving additional support to public schools in the Parish-wide School District.
Shall the Parish-wide School District of Ascension Parish, Louisiana (the "District"), continue to levy a seven and forty hundredths (7.40) mills tax on all property subject to taxation in said District for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2011 and ending with the year 2020 (an estimated $6,120,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year), for the purpose of giving additional support to public schools in said District?
Amite River Basin Drainage and Water Conservation District Proposition
Summary: 10 year, 2.65 mills drainage tax for providing revenues to carry out the District’s local share of the Comite Diversion Canal Project provided that said tax shall be levied if approved by a majority of the electors of the area and only in those parishes in which a majority of the electors voting on this proposition approve the levy of said tax.
Shall the Board of Commissioners of the Amite River Basin Drainage and Water Conservation District be authorized to levy and collect a two and sixty-five hundredths (2.65) mills drainage tax on all the property subject to taxation located within the Comite River Diversion Canal Impact Area of the Amite River Basin Drainage and Water Conservation District (the "Area") (an estimated $2,445,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year), for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2011 and ending with the year 2020, for the purpose of providing revenues to carry out the District’s local share of the Comite Diversion Canal Project provided that said tax shall be levied if approved by a majority of the electors of the Area and only in those Parishes in which a majority of the electors voting on this proposition approve the levy of said tax?
