Gonzales Police arrested a man suspected of repeatedly breaking into Jumonville’s Bakery between Aug. 8- Aug. 26 and stealing only pastries.

Police said the suspect broke into the store located at 2204 S. Burnside Avenue six times while attempting another three break-ins.

During successful store entries, the suspect police dubbed the “Brownie Bandit”  stole brownies and sugar cookies that had been baked for retail sale the next day.

Nothing else of value was ever taken, but the business was incurring substantial and costly repairs as a result of the crimes, according to police.

Through what police said was “good old fashion police work and intuition” officers were eventually able to nab the burglar in the act of a burglary at the store, captured with a bag full of chocolate frosted brownies, according to Det. Steven Nethken.

Police said when Jamon Simoneaux was eventually apprehended, he admitted to Gonzales Detectives that he was the person responsible for all of the burglaries.

Simoneaux was charged with six counts of simple burglary and four counts of simple criminal damage to property, and has been booked into the  Ascension Parish Jail.
