Veron discontinues head cheese production
Veron Foods of Prairieville will discontinue sales of its hogs head cheese, the company said.
Three people were sickened last week after eating from a package of the company’s head cheese that was contaminated with the bacteria Liszteria monocytogenes, which can cause listeriosis.
Veron subsequently recalled about 500,000 pounds of its “ready to eat” sausage to avoid possible cross contamination from the hogs head cheese.
The company is now awaiting approval by the Agriculture and Forestry Department to start production again.
