An Amite man charged with molestation of two minor relatives in Ascension Parish was sentenced July 26 in 23rd Judicial District court by Judge Thomas J. Kliebert, Jr. to two 20-year prison sentences to run consecutive to one another, the District Attorney’s office reported.

Charles McCoy of 1500 McCoy Road was arrested by Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Detectives May 23, 2008.

He was formally charged Feb. 17, 2009 on two counts of aggravated rape and two counts of aggravated incest for the alleged molestation involving the minors over a period of six to seven years.

On April 26, the day before his trial, McCoy changed his plea of not guilty to guilty as charged to two counts of aggravated incest.

After the plea, Kliebert ordered a pre-sentence investigation report, which was followed by the sentencing.

Assistant District Attorneys Shawn R. Bush and Joni M. Buquoi  were the prosecuting attorneys for the State.
