Swamp Pop Music Festival jambalya cook meeting coming up
A cook’s meeting for teams interested in cooking at the Swamp Pop Festival Annual Jambalaya Cooking Contest will be held Wednesday, July 7, at 6 p.m. at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center Big Sky Café.
Jambalaya cooks from across Louisiana are invited to participate in the 11th annual contest to be held July 16-17 during the 13th Annual Swamp Pop Music Festival in Gonzales.
The two-day cook-off benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has been growing in size each year thanks The Jambalaya Festival Association and President Wally Taillon attracting Jambalaya aficionados and amateur cooks alike.
Jambalaya will be judged based on appearance, rice texture, meat texture and overall taste. The $150 entry fee provides each team of two with pork, onions, rice, sausage and cooking oil.
Prizes will be provided by Shane Martinez at Krazy Kajun Cookware & Catering. All participating teams will receive four weekend passes to the festival.
Thousands of festival goers attend each year to enjoy an extensive line-up of Swamp Pop and South Louisiana musicians such including Aaron Foret, Waylon Thibodeaux “Louisiana’s Rockin Fiddler”, Jamie Bergeron & the kickin’ cajuns, Treater with Charles Mann, Warren Storm, Willie T & Cypress with special guests Tommy McLain, Travis Matte & The Kingpins and many more.
Additionally, there will be an Open Car & Truck Show, Motorcycle Poker Run and Swamp Pop Queen’s Pageant.
