Cox launches Gulf Coast relief initiative
In response to the oil spill disaster, Cox Communications has created Save Our Shore (SOS): Gulf Coast Relief to aid recovery efforts among victims and encourage restoration of the Gulf Coast’s fragile ecosystems.
Save Our Shore includes three primary components: a disaster relief fund, volunteerism, and unique events and projects.
The SOS: Gulf Coast Relief Fund will focus on short-term solutions by offering emergency grants to nonprofit organizations helping oil spill victims. Long-term focus of the SOS Fund will include investing in solutions to strengthen coastal communities from future environmental disasters. The SOS Fund is established at The Greater New Orleans Foundation, the oldest and largest philanthropic community foundation in the Gulf region.
Save Our Shore will also partner with area volunteer organizations to mobilize, train and provide valuable volunteers for the oil spill cleanup efforts. In addition, the planning and execution of unique community activities including beach clean-ups and food drives will present opportunities for community involvement.
“If there was ever a case to be made for the benefits of maintaining the Gulf Coast’s resiliency, this is it,” said Jacqueline Vines, senior vice president and general manager of Cox Louisiana.
“Save Our Shore will provide long-term economic, environmental and cultural assistance to the Gulf Coast region and lend a helping hand to individual and family victims in need of immediate aid.”
A series of :30 second promotional spots will encourage viewers to contribute, volunteer and engage in the Gulf recovery efforts. Cox plans to promote SOS in the Cox Louisiana and Cox Florida markets affected by the oil spill, as well as in at least 16 additional Cox markets nationwide.
