Cocaine seized near Marine Institute School in Donaldsonvill

Staff reports

Narcotics detectives seized approximately four ounces of cocaine June 1 during the execution of a search warrant at the residence of Morris Harvey, Jr., 1402 Bryant Alley, Donaldsonville, Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley reported.

Detectives encountered Harvey on the front porch of his residence when they arrived, according to the sheriff. Harvey then led detectives to his bedroom and pointed out approximately one ounce of cocaine and a 9mm handgun, Wiley said.

Harvey told detectives that the gun and contraband belonged to him, according to Wiley. As the search of the residence continued, narcotics detectives located and seized approximately three more ounces of cocaine that was hidden inside of three pairs of shoes.

Harvey was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, illegal carrying of a weapon, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Because he lives within 1000 feet of The Marine Institute school, Wiley said Harvey was also charged with possession of narcotics in a School Zone.

Harvey was booked into the parish prison and was released on $20,000 bond the same day. Bond was set by Judge Jane Milazzo.
