Cole Stafford, Justin Guillory take Jambalaya Festival wins

Cole Stafford won the 5K and Justin Guillory took the mile run/walk Saturday morning at the annual Jambalaya Festival in Gonzales.

Stafford, 15, runs cross country and track and field for Catholic High. He repeated as champion this year after claiming his first-ever win in 2009. He improved on last year’s 17:56 with a 17:20 this time.

Guillory, 16, runs for East Ascension High. He took the mile run/walk with a 5:10. Guillory also claimed third place in the 5K with an 18:42.

Inder Sehgal claimed the masters title with a 17:33 finish in the 5K.

Michael Frederic won the masters title for the mile run/walk with an 8:37.

Rounding out the top finishers in the 5K were:?Blake Wingett, Garret Tregre, Zach Capello, Keith Balza, Luke Landaiche, Ryne Ledet and Trey Capello.

Angela Stanga was the top female runner with a 22:13. Marilyn Breaux took the masters title with a 25:15.

The Ascension Parish School Challenge entered its 11th year in 2010. The school in the parish with the most entries in the 5K and mile run/walk received the challenge championship trophy to display for the next year.

This year, Central Primary claimed the title. Central Middle had won seventh straight championships. East Ascension High was a close second, while Central Middle took third.
