Ascension Parish sports briefs for May 28
Express Soccer, in its fourth year, will be every Sunday from July 11 through Aug. 2.
It will be at the Burnside fields next to the East Ascension stadium in Gonzales.
Boys and girls ages 5 through 14 are welcome. They will receive technical training with and without the ball, and foot skills.
Ages 5-6 will be 6-7 p.m., ages 7-8 from 4:15-5:30 p.m., ages 9-10 from 3-4:15 p.m. and ages 11-14 from 1:30-3 p.m.
Registrations fees are $65 per child, $60 for two or more family members, $55 for any team registering six or more from their team. T-shirts will be provided.

The Ascension Soccer Academy Summer Camp will be July 6-9.
The three sessions will be at the Ascension Soccer Academy near the four-way stop in St. Amant.
Session 1 will be for 8-10 year olds from 8-10 a.m. (7:30 drop off available).
Session 2 will be for 11-14 year olds from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Session 3 will be for high school and serious middle school players from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
The cost is $45.
Coaches will be Rick Garey, Adrian Garcia, Elise Bourgeois and Stacie Luquette (goalkeeper training).
Training for goalkeepers will be offered at all three sessions.

The Gonzales Fraternal Order of Police will hold its first annual golf tournament June 19 at Pelican Point on the Lakes Course.
The event is open to the public with registration starting at 8 a.m. and a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
The tournament will have closest to the hole and long drive awards, a band for after the tournament, along with food and drinks.
There will be a spacewalk for kids as well as a raffle and a chance to win a generator.

Suire’s Baseball Academy is hosting a four-day summer baseball camp from June 14-17 from 9 a.m.-noon. The cost of the camp is $100 per player between the ages of 7-14. The camp will be held at Suire’s Baseball Academy’s indoor facility and field, which is located at 1706 S. Edwards Avenue in Gonzales. The Team Midwest Exreme Tour “Train Like A?Norseman” will stop at the Dutchtown High School gym June 5-6. Coach Billy Huebner of Luther College in Decorah, Iowa has 16 years of wrestling clinician experience and has directed more than 250 clinics across the country. He has been a part of nine NCAA trophy teams and coached 59 All Americans.
The cost is $85. Participants will receive a T-shirt.
The camp is for grades third through 12th.
Sessions for June 5 will be 10 a.m.-noon and 1:30-3:30 p.m. The June 6 session will be 1-3:30 p.m.

U.K. LA soccer camp
The 7th Annual U.K. LA Soccer Camp will be June 7-11 at the Central Middle School fields and gym.
The morning session will be 9-11:30 a.m. and the evening session will be 4:30-7 p.m.
The camp is for ages 5-14.
The cost is $80 for one player, $150 for two siblings, $210 for three siblings, $280 for four siblings.
St. Amant High girls coach Jason Naquin and East Ascension High girls coach Chris Goodall will provide instruction.
Players should bring tennis shoes and cleats (cleats are not a necessity).
A T-shirt, snacks and medals will be included.

The Dutchtown Griffins Volleyball Camp will be June 21-24 from 9 a.m.-noon.
The camp is for girls in grades second through tenth.
The cost is $65.
Campers will sign in on Monday, June 21 from 8-9 a.m. in the gym lobby.
The first 50 registered campers will receive a T-shirt, towel and water bottle.
A trainer will be on duty to care for any injuries should they occur.
Area high school players and coaches will provide instruction.
Campers will be grouped by age and skill level. They will work on passing, serving, defense, setting, blocking and attacking, among other activities.

Gonzales flag football
Gonzales Youth Flag Football registration will be May 29 at Tee Joe Park on Orice Roth Road from noon to 1 p.m.
It is for boys and girls ages 5-13 years old.
The cost is $30, and $20 for cheerleaders.
The five-week summer program will play games on Saturday evenings.

The 2010 Improve Your Game Summer Baseball Camp will be June 1-4 from 9 a.m.-noon daily at East Ascension High School’s John Keith Ambeau Field.
The camp is for kindergartn through eighth grade students (2010-11). The cost is $90. On the day of the camp, it is $120.
Insurance is provided by Hughes Insurance.
Participants are asked to bring a cap, glove and baseball attire. Bats are optional. T-shirts will be provided by Athletic Center of Gonzales.
Concessions will be sold throughout the day.

D’town football camp
The 2010 D’town Football camp will be held June 1-4 from 9 a.m. to noon daily.
Sponsored by BRPT-Lake, Coca-Cola and TLJ?Enterprises, the camp is not affiliated with the Ascension Parish School Board.
The camp is for boys ages 6-14 or entering ninth grade in August.
The dates are Tuesday-Friday, June 1-4 from 9 a.m. through noon each day.
The registration fee is $80 per camper, and checks should be made payable to TLJ Enterprises.
The location will be the Dutchtown High School football practice fields.
Campers should arrive by 8:55 a.m. each day in appropriate workout clothing, such as T-shirt, shorts, socks and cleats or sneakers.
Powerade and a snack will be provided for all participants at a mid-morning break. Water will be available at all times to the campers.
They will also receive a camp T-shirt as well as a certificate of attendance.
Daily awards will be presented to campers staff deem as deserving recognition.
Camp will include football and character instruction and fun competition. The camp will also include instruction and drills in speed, strength and power development.
The camp will focus on football techniques and fundamentals. Activities will include sport as well as position specific individual drills, small group activities, and whole group demonstrations such as 7 on 7 passing competitions.
Campers will be instructed in and participate in drills for each football position.
Instruction will be provided by varsity, junior varsity, ninth grade and middle school coaches with help from select members of the varsity football team.
If inclement weather causes the camp to be moved inside for a period of time, activities will be adjusted to suit the venue which may include showing football related videos.
Registration will be accepted the day of camp, but there is no guarantee that the camper will get his preferred t-shirt size.

St. Amant volleyball
The 2010 St. Amant High volleyball team will host a clinic Tuesday, June 22 and Wednesday, June 23 in the school’s back gym from 9 a.m.-noon.
The “Be the Best” clinic will be for girls ages 8-14.
The cost is $35. Checks should be made to St. Amant High Volleyball, and the child’s name should be on the check.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 22.

Ascension Cougars Youth Football, based in Gonzales, is having registration for football and cheerleading, for boys and girls ages 5 to 12 years old. Registration fees are $100 for football and $80 for cheerleading.

Dutchtown basketball camps
For the 23rd year, a pair of basketball camps will be held at Dutchtown Middle School.
Coach Steve LaCour will direct the two camps.
The first will be the “Little Dribblers” camp, which will be June 7-11 from 9 a.m.-noon. It will be for children ages 8-10 years old. The cost is $70.
The second will be the “Run and Gun” camp, which will be June 14-18 from 9 a.m.-noon. It wi ll be for ages 11-13. The cost is $75.
All participants will receive T-shirts.

The 2010 Louisiana High School Coaches Association’s Annual Coaching Clinic will be held July 19–22 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Baton Rouge. Take advantage of this free clinic, and educate yourself on the most recent coaching methods, network with other coaches from around the state, play a round of golf and enjoy food, prizes and entertainment at the LHSAA office.
The LHSCA Golf Tournament will take place Monday, July 19 at the LSU Golf Course. Visit the “About the LHSCA” link on the LHSAA Web site for the golf tournament entry form.
This year’s trainings and speakers will cover softball, volleyball, football, basketball, track and field and wrestling.
Soccer all-star games
The 2010 LHSCA boys’ and girls’ Soccer All-Star games will be held Saturday, July 10 at University of Louisiana Lafayette.

The OL4NO Youth Football Camp is designed for kids ages 9-13 who want to learn the fundamentals of football while interacting with New Orleans Saints players. This camp will be held Friday, June 11 at the Saints Practice Facility.
The Coach Payton High School Football camp is designed for for high school kids, ages 14-18, and will focus on developing skill positions. This camp will be held Friday, June 18 at the Saints Practice Facility.
BRSA placement dates
The Baton Rouge Soccer Club 2010 Premier and Division I player placement process will take place at Independence Park field 2-5.
U14 through U18 boys and girls:
• Wednesday, June 9; 14-15s, 5-6:15 p.m.; 16s-18s, 6:30-7:45 p.m.
• Saturday, June 12; 14s-15s, 8:30-9:45 a.m.; 16s-18s, 10-11:15 a.m.
• Wednesday, June 14 will be the rain-out date.
Players will be charged a one-time $15 fee, which covers administration costs and T-shirt.

Soccer camps set
Jared Montz, a former professional soccer player, will hold a series of soccer camps for players 5-13 years old this summer in Gonzales.
The camp will be held June 21-25 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. for 8-12 year olds, and July 19-23 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. for 5-8 year olds.
The camp will be at Carver Park, 616 West Toby St., Gonzales.
The camp is designed to give campers the knowledge and training that will help them reach their personal goals in soccer and in life, according to the Louisiana native.
In addition to camps, Montz coaches kids all across the country in his Online Soccer Academy, guest coaches area club teams, teaches private lessons and creates personal college recruiting Web sites for high school players who want to play at the next level.
