Local players to appear in Bayou Bowl

BAYTOWN, Texas – The Bayou Bowl Association has plans underway for the 8th annual Nike Bayou Bowl, which will include a pair of Ascension Parish standouts.

Dutchtown cornerback Marcus Godfrey and Donaldsonville running back Bryant Dunn will be on the Louisiana team’s roster.

Godfrey is listed at 5-foot-10, 180 pounds. He is set to be a preferred walk-on at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

Dunn, who checks in at 6-feet, 180 pounds, will play for Southeastern Louisiana University.

The Bayou Bowl is an all-star game that features the best graduated players from Louisiana and Texas.

Net proceeds from the game go to Shriners Hospital for Children.

Kickoff at Stallworth Stadium is set for June 12 at 8 p.m.

The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Network and streaming live on their Web site.

Executive Director of Bayou Bowl and Chamber President and CEO Tracey Wheeler said this is going to be another exciting year of all-star high school football.

Players will arrive in Baytown on June 8 for a week full of events, leading up to the game on Saturday, June 12.

Some activities include a trip to Reliant Stadium to practice and watch the Houston Texans, an evening at Houston Raceway Park’s new Tower Club, and an autograph session during Fan Fest, Friday June 11 at San Jacinto Mall. 

A golf tournament benefitting Bayou Bowl will also be June 11 at Eagle Pointe.

Before the game Saturday, the players will have a banquet in their honor.
