Parish 4-H’ers place at shooting competition
Ascension Parish was well-represented at the 4-H state shooting sports competition on May 7-9 with six students finishing at the top in different events.
Ascension’s Gordon Waguespack placed in the shotgun junior overall, shotgun junior trap and shotgun junior sporting clays. Brett Brown placed in the shotgun-senior trap and shotgun-senior sporting clays.
In the archery competition, Ascension’s Joseph Babineaux placed in the senior compound and senior bare bow competition.
Chelsie Reed placed in the senior recurve and senior bare bow and Jake Delaune placed in the junior bare bow competition.
More than 600 4-H’ers from throughout the state tested their skills on the shooting range. The shotgun competition including trap, skeet and five-stand – and hunting skills events were held at the Shreveport Gun Club May 7.
Hunting skills includes tests of hunting rules and regulations, wildlife identification consisting of furs, feet and feathers, and orienteering along with archery and shooting skills in various disciplines.
Modified-trap shotgun, air pistol, archery, muzzle loading, smallbore pistol, smallbore rifle and BB gun competitions were held at the Long-Range Alley Gun Club in Grand Cane May 8-9.
