Special Tuesday at home again in Sorrento

The Ascension Parish School Board approved use of the Sorrento Civic Center for Special Tuesday this summer, Bobbie Blanchard, founder of the annual event for special needs children, said Tuesday morning.

Blanchard said the event had been up in the air after the Town of Sorrento decided not to lease or purchase the civic center from the school board.

She said school board Director of Planning and Construction Chad Lynch granted Special Tuesday permission to use the Sorrento facility.

“I’m ecstatic,” Blanchard said. “We couldn’t find a place.”

Last year Special Tuesday had over 400 attendees at the weekly program which provides supervised games,  activities and snacks to all who attend.

“They’re special needs people so we can’t just go anywhere,” Blanchard said.

Special Tuesday 2010 will be held every Tuesday from June 1 - July 13.

The hours are 2 to 6 p.m.

“From everyone at Special Tuesday, thanks to all those who helped us find a place to hold Special Tuesday this summer,” Blanchard said.
