Dutchtown’s Jacob Williams once again guided the Griffins to a playoff win on both the mound and at the plate. He hit an RBI single to right in the ninth to score Mason Nickens, giving the Griffins a 7-6 win over Byrd in the regional playoff game Monday night in Geismar.

Williams (8-2) pitched the first five innings and allowed just two hits and struck out four. The Griffins held a 5-2 lead when the junior left the mound. Byrd tied the game in the sixth and again in the seventh to force extra innings.

Dutchtown’s Steven Bright recorded three hits in the game. Jesse Buratt and Eric Babin each added two hits. Britt Gautreaux, who came on to pitch in relief, had an RBI?single in the sixth. Dutchtown tallied 12 hits on the night.

Dutchtown advances to the state tournament for the third straight season. The fourth-seeded Griffins will face fifth-seeded Brother Martin Friday at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals at Tulane University in New Orleans. Dutchtown was the runner-up last year.
