GEISMAR – Dutchtown junior Jacob Williams helped his own effort on the mound Tuesday as he batted in two runs and scored two runs himself.

Williams (7-2) pitched his second complete game of the season as the Griffins notched a 4-0 win over Ouachita in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.

Williams allowed only five hits as No. 4 seed Dutchtown completed the shutout of No. 29 Ouachita.

Williams struck out three and walked only one. He finished 1-for-3 at the plate, as he knocked in a pair of runs on a double in the fourth inning. That hit gave Dutchtown (26-10) a lead that would go unanswered by the visiting Lions.

Pitcher Ryan Gebhardt (9-3) took the loss for Ouachita (18-6).

Jason Johnson led off the first inning with a triple, but was left stranded at third.

The Lions were unable to produce much more as the game wore on. Johnson went on to pick up another hit, and Andy Roberts added two.

Dutchtown right fielder Matt Willis provided a web gem in the third inning when he dove to catch a shot off of Adam Coco’s bat. The out saved a potential run from scoring.

The Griffins broke open the game in the bottom of the fourth when Williams hit a double to shallow left. Mason Nickens and Leon Blouin both crossed the plate.

Dutchtown extended its lead when a third run scored as Britt Gautreaux reached on an error. Williams went home after Gautreaux’s hit to third was thrown wayward in route to first.

The Griffins added another run in the bottom of the sixth when Jesse Buratt hit a sacrifice fly to center field with the bases loaded. Williams was able to cross the plate from third on the play.

The Griffins will face the winner between No. 13 C.E. Byrd and No. 20 St. Amant in the second round.
