Road work wanted

Mary-Glenn Smith

Led by Margaret Black, left, residents of Tiggy Duplessis Road attended the Ascension Parish Transportation Committee meeting Tuesday with hopes of addressing what they said were issues with the road’s “speed cushions.” The matter was not discussed at the April 13 meeting, but Ascension Parish Councilmen did agree to add “Tiggy Duplessis Road repair and safety” to the agenda for the May Transportation Committee meeting.

Residents are concerned about the “speed cushions” on Tiggy  Duplessis Road because they require vehicles to slow down to 5 mph, or otherwise risk possible vehicle damage. The road is also being damaged by drivers going onto the shoulder of the road to avoid driving over the speed bump. Tiggy Duplessis Road is in one of the the heavist travelled areas of Ascension Parish, between the Hwy. 73, Airline Highway, and Hwy. 621.
